Day Six

In todays lesson, we were again, introduced to the save for web function, from NCFE in our first term, to help with the design process by creating smaller files to import into DreamWeaver and make the web page a lot more accessible for Internet users who dont necessarily have Broadband.

Day Five

Today was the task of creating an extremely brief web page in Dreamweaver, which we did briefly in the NCFE project.

There is the site we made, above ^^

Process included creating 3 pages, and linking them together with frames.

Above is the table we had made, on the layout tab, using the 'draw layout table' feature, and then draw the cells in using the 'draw layout cells'.

Day Three

I use Google very often and I believe its the more superior Search Engine out of the other competitors MSN and Yahoo.

We watched a doc' on the world of Google, it was mightily interesting.

We also added other members from our class, which was also mightily interesting.

Day Two

Fonts

Here I will examine the legible fonts for websites.

Verdana is considered the internet's most legible font, with the Helvetica font also thought to be similar. Helvetica has the identical roundness of Verdana but when at low resolution its hard to differentiate each letter because of the apertures being close. The apertures being the gap between the letter C.

Verdana has slight open ends on the end of the letters, 'e' for example, where the tip of the letter isn't rounded up towards the top
,
but flicked to make it a lot more legible with small narrow font settings.

Colours

Here is the test of colours in which I will examine the schemes for web page colours.

Here is an example of using colours for a website header. They are known as Light, Dark and Medium.
LIGHT
The Light version, which is the first one, doesnt alert the eye, it just makes you strain to read the narrow font. This is bad because people will want to be able to read something with ease, and not have to move closer to the screen.
Also the images that comprehend with the header will have to work well with it, but the image here makes the image stand out, but the header put behind it metaphorically, in how its the second thing you notice, after the image.
DARK
The Dark header is the second in row. Although it does work very well with the corresponding image, it may become repetative as it could make the website look dark and unappealing when trying to work with the white and subtle grey background.
MEDIUM
Medium is classed as the best of the three, situated on the far right. The simple mix of the two Light and Dark will create a subtle colouring that works well with all backgrounds, fonts and images. It doesnt stand out as much as the Dark and it doesnt cause you to strain yourself like the Light version.

Day One

MySpace Layouts

BAD:
This in my opinion, is a bad layout because of the colours and fonts. The font is quite illegible as its tight and the same colour as the background. The colours are too brash, and distract you from the content.

Another terrible layout, yet again the American pride thing. Its not that I dont like Americans, its just they're so patriotic and so wrapped up in themselves, this shows that in how they really didnt want to make a MySpace layout, they just wanted to make a point. The font in the background is a huge distraction from the content because you're drawn to that and not the text and imaging on the actual MySpace page.
Yet again the colours fail the test as the font is also the same colour. What were they thinking?

GOOD:

I believe that these MySpace's are good. This Porsche 911 GT3 (997) version especially, because the car is interesting and appealing to look at. The boxes are outlined with yellow and black colouring which is attractive and draws your eye into the content.

The Halo Wars' MySpace layout is a very subtle and simple looking layout, with the fonts not being the same colour but being the opposite so that the reader can actually read it. Because the background is mainly dark, the font and imaging ontop could easily be a medium to light shade and would still work well.

Website Layouts

Bad Pages:
The bad thing about this website is the layout. There is barely any text to read on the page that is legible for the user, just very brash and hard to understand adverts which make the web page confusing to access and find things, considering its meant to be a cycles shop and it advertises a full page of sunglasses.

This has to be one of the worst websites I have ever been on. Not because of its content, but plainly because of someones bright idea to use Frames for each news article, and even the navigation links at the top.

It looks really unprofessional and really not user friendly.

Good Pages:

The best thing about the Disney site is the look of it. It looks to be accessible by anyone and simplistic to understand, which is a bonus for children. The background is friendly and the foreground is very simple and easy to read and look at without being distracted.

This is a website dedicated to the Dodge Challenger series of American muscle cars. I chose this site to as a good representation of an easy access, good layout, website because its really easy to find things. On the left you have the many versions of the Challenger to read and learn the history of each one.

The text is laid out in the simple way making everything legible and nothing is hard to read or nothing to strain over.
